Inter must choose between Shaqiri and Podolski for Celtic games Inter face a tough decision ahead of their Europa League tie with Celtic with only one of their new signings eligible to play. The Italian side signed Lukas Podolski from Arsenal early in the January transfer window and have now secured the services of Xherdan Shaqiri from Bayern Munich. Both players can help manager Roberto Mancini to turn around the club’s domestic form but the former Manchester City boss has a choice to make for European competition. Inter have been drawn against Celtic in the last 32 of the Europa League but registration rules for the competition only allow them to add one of the pair to their squad for the double-header against the Scottish champions. UEFA competition rules allow teams to add up to three new players to the squad ahead of the Round of 32 but only one of those is allowed to have played in the Champions league this season. Both Podolski and Shaqiri have appeared in the elite competition for their previously clubs meaning that one of the pair will be excluded from the Europa League ties. Celtic will also be allowed to add players to their squad under the same rules, with one of the three spaces expected to be taken by John Guidetti, who was unable to play in the Group Stage after an administrative problem delayed his registration when joining the club on loan in September.
