Interesting, I hear a lot about proportional representation and what actually happens in seats. A product of Westminster system. We also, not uncommonly, have situations where a party may gain control with less than 50% of the vote via alliances with smaller parties or just the way the seats fall with distribution. For example SA today and the federal government in 1998 among many others. These graphs are interesting showing how seats would look if we have genuine proportional representation. What is interesting is how hard it would be to make legislation stick if, essentially every parliament was a hung parliament. Though that being said it is can often be a good thing to make dominant parties have to negotiate to get policy through. i.imgur/mw9BvTD.png
