Interesting. The ”weirdest” language in the world (out of 239 with sufficient data), i.e. having more unusual features (out of a set of 21) than any other, is Mixtec. The least weird (and thus presumably on average easiest to learn?) is Hindi. What is more surprising is that German is one of the top 10 weirdest whereas Hungarian, usually considered a hard language to learn – for native Indo-European speakers at least – is in the bottom 10. English is th 33rd weirdest, Finnish is 160th. The study is not perfect, but gives a bit of context to the discussion about ”the most difficult languages in the world”.
