Interesting Whitey tidbits... So once the political decision was made by President Reagan to not arrest FBI Agent John Connolly for terrorism as an active member of South Boston chapter of the Irish Republican Army the big lie began. Ollie North supervised by George HW Bush did what Ollie does and created the cover story about gangsters run amok. You see... it was never really a gangster story ... It was a terrorism story carried out by gangsters. And that makes it an Irish story. And all Irish stories are sad flawed tales of untenable choices. Like all cover ups over the years the lies begin to fray. The FBI in particular became the fall guy. Charged with actually protecting the big lie over the years the FBI simply became the liars. Promotions flowed to those best able to sustain the coverup. And as they rose in the ranks the contagion spread infecting all levels of FBI command. Honorable in their heart the FBI as an organization simply actually became so corrupt from the lie as to be unable to do its job. And as the coverup deepened the ability of those in the know to act with illegal impunity also spread.. Particularly throughout politics. My old pal Dick Cheney in particular became invulnerable. You see he knew how Jimmy Bulger finally got immunity.
