Interesting article. Reminds me of my Mysore days while I was stopped on the same pose. Every day at this point, Guriji would stomp up to me, pull my feet in opposite directions to go deeper in the pose, tell me to lift, count 1,2,3,4,5, and say with great enthusiasm, chaturanga ! He was satisfied with my pose and then told me to do the next pose, yoginidrasana. Then from other side of the room, Sharath would shout over in Kanada (the local dialect) and him and Guruji would argue a little. People would look over from their mat to me, the trouble maker, the BAD LADY.... oh dear.... ! This happened every day for about 5 days. The exact same every day ! Then one day I had to talk to Sharath about it. It was terrible. I felt like I had to choose one teacher over the other and I loved and respected both. Finally I decided to listen to Sharath, but felt the whole drama was pushing Guruji out of his role as teacher. To be honest, compared to the stress of choosing who to obey, I didnt care about moving forward in the pose or not. Eventually Sharath agreed and gave me the pose. Cant remember if it was that trip or the next. And yes slowing me down did make me think. I remember consulting Hamish for advice, stopped him on the street in exasperation. He told me to contract my leg muscles down into my hip and it worked. Maybe it was all in my head.... and behind my head... About 3 years after the event, I was as a yoga workshop in Paris. I bumped into an old Mysore buddy who introduced me to a friend of his, as you know that woman I told you about, the one where Guruji and Sharath were arguing every day.... Oh dear, bad lady indeed.... :-)
