Interesting discussion/topic at the 2014 BC Chiropractic Convention: ** Superficial Back Line ** The Superficial Back Line consists of a line of FASCIA that starts at the plantar surface (bottom) of the foot. It travels up the entire posterior (back) side of the body, moving up over the head and finishes at the brow bone. What is FASCIA? Fascia is fibrous connective tissue, made up of collagen, that surrounds denser tissues such as muscles, tendons, nerves, ligaments, and blood vessels. Fascia helps compartmentalize these denser tissues and allows for a smooth sliding/gliding of the tissues past one another. In addition, fascia also helps transmit tension and forces from one muscle group to the next muscle group. In effect, fascia helps create one long muscle by helping all muscles work synchronously as one throughout the movement. Image: courtesy of Anatomy Trains (Tom Myers).
