Interesting email just received for years I have heard of the time that Nirvana played at Frankies Inner City but never was sure if it really happened. This email finally answers the riddle Nirvana did in fact play Frankies back in October of 1989 with another little band known as Flaming Lips! What a gig very cool to hear more of this legendary story. Did anyone actually attend this gig? To explain my interest, the other year time I wrote a book on one of the band Nirvana’s albums back in 2012 and issued it via a tiny British imprint. Next I set up a blog I’ve been running ever since (nirvana-legacy) and have a book I’m preparing with Chicago Review Press compiling lost and rare interviews with Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. In the meantime, in March 2015, I’ve a book coming out with St Martins Press. It’s an oral history of Nirvana based on interviews with 170 of the bands who performed alongside Nirvana 1987-1994. The band performed at Frankie’s Inner City in Toledo wayyyyyy back in October 1989 and I spoke to the two other bands who played that night – Flaming Lips and Steel Pole Bath Tub – and they reported it was one heck of a gig.
