Interesting for absolutely any biology student! This years topics hold interesting conflicts: Industry 4.0 - Economy and Technology The fourth industrial revolution: tremendous individualisation of products within a heavily flexible mass production and connection of products with high-quality services. How will tomorrow’s world look like? Global conjunction using the internet causes the real and virtual world to grow together. Automation technologies will support humans mastering complex labour thus optimising it. But will efficiency increase with it? Could humans be replaced by machines? Bioprinting – Human and Technology 3D printing: produce organs in a laboratory? No problem. Just start the printer and get going. Produce new tissue when needed. Possibility to create new organs from implants of your own body seems within reach. This would solve the problem of endogenous rejection of implants. Utopia or near future? Genetic Engineering - Environment and Technology Genetically altered organisms: tailored creatures as an ideal for the future? Organisms with genetic alteration are known for being extremely resistant and insensitive to external influences. But how is genetic engineering impacting health? Do genetically altered organisms provide a noticeable benefit? Is the cultivation of genetically engineered plants helping with feeding a growing world population? I went there in May 2014 and had a great time, met great people from all over the world. Talked to people from places as far as India and California. Even Bavarians made it to Karlsruhe! talKIT.eu
