Interesting topic for many reasons. My attitude to copyright and creativity is probably somewhat in a minority. I question the nature of commercial art and literature from a purist POV. True art to me is done purely for the sake of expression and exposure is what the artist wants. Turning it into a commodity detracts from this. Im happy for some public money to go into the arts and also for great artists/writers/performers to be supported by patrons and grants. In practical terms, putting something of value up on the internet is like leaving it out on the street for anyone to take. We all know this. Even high budget entertainment like drama series, movies, sport etc rely on advertising, merchandising and product placement to make their real money. I feel it is entirely unfair to make ISPs responsible for policing an impossible mess of international content and the behavior of users. In practical terms it is also not currently possible to administer effectively. Its like making the RTA responsible for what people buy at the shops because they use the roads to get there. Brandis is as stupid as Stephen Conroy with his ridiculous Internet Filter idea if he thinks this could actually work. I suspect he is just dropping another poison chalice (like dismantling of the NBN) into the lap of Malcolm Turnbull to undermine his popularity as a potential Liberal Leader. sbs.au/news/article/2014/08/09/comment-why-australians-should-back-turnbull-stoush-over-copyright
