Interesting...in researching pet insurance, I have discovered that Healthy Paws insurance premiums are very high for Papillons. The premium for a 15 month old Papillon would be $41.25/month and the premium for a 5 years old Yorkie would be $39.17. I asked for an explanation and did get one and it was very thorough, the gist being that they consider the Papillon breed to be susceptible to more major illnesses and conditions than Yorkies, something that really surprised me. This the only pet insurance company who has high premiums for the papillon breed. The response was very thorough, they did list all the of the conditions for each of my breeds, and then ended with this: The Papillion has more chronic health problems and that is why the premium cost is higher. The Yorkies have health issues that are usually solved with treatment or surgery and are not a chronic condition. Border collies have similar minor health issues. We do research the breeds extensively and base our premiums on information from the veterinary medicine community. What do you all think?
