Interesting one for any fellow songwriters out there. Over 20 - TopicsExpress

Interesting one for any fellow songwriters out there. Over 20 years ago I wrote a song called Blue Days. Lyn and I recorded it on our 1997 Balance From The Heart album. We recorded another version of Blue Days for our 2007 debut Bounty Hunters album. It is clearly stated on both CDs that we own the copyright for all of our songs. In 2007 we were approached by Hardrush Music seeking permission to include Blue Days on their Australian Contemporary Blues compilation CD. We gave our permission, but retained copyright of course. Songs are like your children, and giving copyright away is akin to giving one of your kids away! Hardrush were great, and it clearly states on the CD cover that while they hold copyright to THAT COMPILATION, ie the order of tracks, the individual copyrights to the songs are held by the original writers of those songs. Fast forward to today when our manager Mel suggested it might be a good idea to get some of our back catalog up on our social media sites, including Blue Days. So I upload Blue Days to SoundCloud and immediately get an email saying that they have blocked the song because their copyright infringement detection had indicated that I did not own copyright to the song, Hardrush Music did! But I could lodge a dispute if I felt that this was in error..... Damn right its in error! And lodge I did! I know this is not Hardrushs doing, whatever detects these things has obviously seen the copyright on THE COMPILATION and blocked me. Hopefully it will be sorted soon, because if you think I am majorly p*ssed off about not being able to upload my own song onto my own Soundcloud page, you would be correct! There, thats off my chest....stay tuned!
