Interesting segment on Seven Sharp about fat girls embracing their curves; they were shown being photographed in bikinis on the beach. Now, I am never going to embrace my curves to the extent that Ill wander around in public in my bikini, but lets explore the word fat. As a large girl, it is not uncommon for people, strangers in fact, to remark on my size - thanks, I know, I see it every day, and Im always trying to lose weight, or failing to lose weight. The problem is that fat just doesnt mean fat. Fat can also mean ugly, dumb, horrible, worthless, lazy, and the list goes on. Now I dont think Im that ugly, I have doctorate so Im not that dumb, Im quite a nice person so Im not horrible, people respect what I do so Im not worthless, yes I can be lazy, though most of the time I barely have time for lunch, so Im not that lazy. So why cant fat just mean fat? Thin and even skinny can be a compliment, shouldnt those words just mean what they mean? There is so much discrimination towards large people that is completely unnecessary. Judge people for who they are, not what size they are. The fat girl in the corner is actually a great girl and would love to have more friends in the same way that the shy skinny girl does.
