Interesting start to my day, today. Christina and Daryl had invited to their house for Thanksgiving dinner. Becky and I got dressed, went to the local MickeyDs, placed our order. We came to the pay window and were greeted by a young lady. Trying to be friendly, we both said, Happy Thanksgiving. Without missing a beat, she said, I dont celebrate Thanksgiving. My first reaction was think about how stupid it is not to celebrate Thanksgiving. But the longer Ive thought about her, today, the more Ive come to just feel sorry for this young girl. While my life has had some rather nasty bumps from time to time, I cannot imagine dealing with lifes thorns without some deep, heart-felt gratitude and a perspective that sees the Hand of God leading and having sincere gratitude for it. In a parallel statement, Paul said, Godliness with contentment is great gain. While I very well understand there are differences on the level of minutae between contentment and thanksgiving, they are paternal twins. It is only from that appreciation of our status, standing, resources, skills, abilities, temperament that we can move on. Failure to recognize that will be a drag on a person for life... Pray for that young lady that God will open her eyes...
