Delighted that things are progressing rapidly, Dr. David R. Decker today named Dr. Alex Capdeville as the Interim President of Urbana University. Capdeville joins UU after completing 30 years as the longest-serving chief executive in the Montana University system. He spent 22 years as the Chancellor at the University of Montana – Helena, and 8 years at Montana State University – Northern. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northern Montana College, and his doctorate in higher education administration from Colorado State University. Capdeville will focus on continuing efforts to restore Urbana’s compliance with HLC standards, overall academic oversight, and strategic planning. He will assume his position at Urbana after the holiday break. “Urbana University will begin the search for a permanent President in January 2015,” Decker said. “I am thankful that Dr. Capdeville is willing to lend his expertise to this institution of great potential and growth. From the enthusiastic students to the committed faculty and staff, I know Dr. Capdeville will quickly feel at home in Champaign County.” Dr. Pamela Shay, who has been serving as the Senior Vice President and Provost for Urbana, will return to Franklin University as Senior Vice President for Accreditation and Institutional Effectiveness and focus on the complex regulatory accreditation processes for Franklin and Urbana. “Dr. Shay played a vital role in transitioning Urbana after the partnership with Franklin was announced and will continue to be involved in Urbana’s success. We are confident the academic expectations are well underway through her leadership and the work of the faculty and staff,” added Decker.
