Interim Provost Martin Wybourne has named Theresa M. Ellis 97, a former member of the Foundations Board of Visitors, to serve as interim Dean of the Tucker Foundation. Ellis, a religion major, was involved with Tucker as an undergraduate as a volunteer with the Big Brother Big Sister program. Upon graduation she was the recipient of the Philip D. McInnis Award. Ellis is the Gleitsman Visitng Practitioner at the Kennedy School of Government and the founder and former CEO of Common Impact, an organization that connects volunteers from Fortune 500 companies to nonprofits that can utilize their expertise. Katie Trinh, Tucker Intern for Communications, was able to sit down with Ellis and chat about her experiences at Tucker and what she is looking forward to as Interim Dean. You can read excerpts from the interview below. How did being at Tucker shape your Dartmouth experiences and then your experiences after Dartmouth? I really valued the relationship that I had built with my little sister. It was a clear reminder every week that I was in a very privileged spot. And it was a very eye-opening experience to see the world through her eyes and the experiences that she had and the circumstances from which she came. That helped me realize that I wanted to do work that had a component of service in it after I left Dartmouth. Now that youre back at Tucker, what are you looking forward to doing? I am looking forward primarily to learning a lot more about whats happening at Tucker these days and also learning how I can be helpful as Tucker and Dartmouth think about Tuckers role in this community - and I think thats a real gift. Im also looking forward to spending time with students because Dartmouth students continue to be really amazing so its a treat to get to know some who are a few years behind where I was in the process.
