International Human Rights Day The Embassy team today marked - TopicsExpress

International Human Rights Day The Embassy team today marked the International Human Rights Day by taking part in a procession organized by the Uganda Human Rights Commission with support from the DGF. Been great to join the civil society activists, Uganda Human Rights Commission, Members of Parliament and Government of Uganda Officials in a procession from the Kololo Airstrip to one of the Juvenile Remand Homes located in Naguru, a Kampala suburb. Juvenile justice is one of the critical human rights issues for the Netherlands in Uganda along with many others. The choice of the Naguru Remand Home to host the activity could not have come at a better time given the increased cases of child abuse, child torture and the need for presentation in parliament of a Bill to strengthen children’s rights, protection and access to justice. Hopefully today’s event will lead to improved juvenile justice and juvenile remand facilities. A big banner has been attached to the balcony of the 4th floor of the building where the Netherlands Embassy is located to remind the public of this important day and to reinforce the commitment of the Netherlands Government to continue defending human rights worldwide.
