International boycotts are a time-honored, morally sound, - TopicsExpress

International boycotts are a time-honored, morally sound, nonviolent tactic used by civil society where governments fail. St. Louisans boycotted South African Krugerrands as part of the global campaign that helped end apartheid there. Likewise, Palestinians have asked us to stop supporting companies like Veolia that enable their suffering under occupation. St. Louis is not responsible for ending the injustices in Israel/Palestine, but we are responsible for the choices we make in whom we work with. As we preach freedom and equality here at home, let us not fund injustices elsewhere. Let us heed the Palestinian call for boycott, divestment, and sanctions targeting Israel and complicit companies like Veolia as a path toward ensuring basic rights for all people. - Anna Baltzer
