He’s a self taught Dj that hails all the way from Limpopo. Da Capo has three impressive EP’s under Nick Holder’s DNH Records and is recommended by a number of well established Dj’s locally and across the globe such as Rocco, Ralf Gum and Osunlade just to name a few. The hype around this young man is all with good reason, he sets alight the decks he plays on. The passion and love for house and music in general oozes from the productions he makes. He’s songs have been rotating on popular radio stations such as YFM and Metro Fm. Are we looking at the new pied piper of house music? No lie…one may say that he’s a true house veteran in the making. I caught up with him recently to hear what he’s about. 1.When did you first start Dj’ing and how did it come about? I first started in 2010…well as a producer…I figured that the only proper way to publish your music is through you! The people have to see the man behind the magic, through his music. 2.Out of the 3 E.P’s you’ve released thus far which one would you say is by far your favourite and why? I’d have to say “Return to the beginning part 3″…I dig the new style and form of house it brought to South African house music. 3.What future projects are you working on? My album, its called “Musiq In Me” and I’m also working on the “House Afrika Compilation” 4. As a self taught dj,were your skills ever undermined or ridiculed? Undermined…Lol there was this friend of mine who would laugh at me every time I missed a beat. 5. You’ve been hailed as a house music genius by many well established dj’s locally and overseas, how does that make you feel? I feel so blessed, its part of my dream and everything I wanted to achieve. I still feel like I have a long way to go. 6. What were the challenges you faced growing up as a child in Seshego, Limpopo? Well some people think that if you’re from Limpopo you will never make it to the top of this industry. 7. What advice would you give those who want to enter into the DJ’ing industry? You have to be patient with what you do,stay focused and PRACTICE, PRACTICE everyday!! 8. Which people have been your pillars of strength throughout this journey? Dj swizz,Phonetic M and KzeLa!! 9. What else do you do besides dj’ing? I’m still a student, doing my last year this year. 10. What’s your view on the “Skhotane” phenomena that’s happening in South African townships? Well I think its a shame. When I first saw how they behave and all…lol I thought I was dreaming…but overall I think such behavior shouldn’t be participated in. 11. Who would you still like to work with in the music industry? Jamie o’dell a.k.a Jimpster. 12. How did you decide on the name “Da Capo”? It came from a musical dictionary. I liked the term Da capo “meaning return to the beginning”. It simply defines the type of music I used to do back in 2010…which brought back the music of our ancestors. 13. Which memory since the beginning of your career do you cherish the most? I cherish 2010 the most, this is when I got signed under Nick Holders DNH records. 14. Can you tell the readers something they don’t know about you? I’m also a rapper,a good one at that… I also do hip hop beats, soul & jazz. Versatility. 15. Have you had any embarrassing moments while on the job? What happened? Pioneer cdjays 100 once cost me,it was a nightmare, lol all my cd’s scratched :That was all from Da Capo Follow @DaCapoSA on twitter Be sure to purchase some of Da Capo’s tracks on the link below: Click here Support your own, support quality local music. @DivhaniV Signing Out #Salute
