Interview Tip of the Day: Never underestimate the power of eye contact during job interviews. Eye contact says volumes about you. You potential employer can decide whether to hire you or not just based on your ability to use eye contact. A confident and assertive person who is sure of him/herself during the interview will sit upright and look the interviewer straight in the eyes while answering questions. If you have more than one person interviewing you, you can easily look at one person, speak several words and then shift to make eye contact with another person in the room who is also interviewing you. All interviewers want employees who are confident. Self confidence is associated with determination and drive to really succeed at the particular job. It shows ability to do the job. On the other hand, a shy or timid person, who is unsure of himself during an interview, may not look at the person interviewing him enough, and will unintentionally communicate his/her uncertainty. A lack of confidence in one’s self translates is interpreted by the interviewer as a lack of ability to do the job.
