Interview tips: -Do not ask questions that you can find the answer to on the programs website, It shows that you didnt do your homework. You can ask for clarifications but not simple facts -Google people! you can learn a lot about their interests, research etc. Opens doors for intelligent conversations. -Treat everyone nicely, EVERYONE, no interaction is as casual as it may seem (including the dinner with residents, checking in with the secretary etc) -Create a list of the type of questions that you want to ask different people. If you meet the department chair you may not want to ask about the details of the calls but rather questions like the strategic direction of the department etc. For the program director you may want to ask about opportunities for fellowships, research etc. Leave details like frequency of calls, nature of rotations etc to residents. -Appear ENERGETIC, its sometimes you can practice even if you are more laid back. It conveys motivation. - Never trash talk your medical school or country. How will that serve you? be diplomatic. For example if you are asked to describe medical school in Egypt you can say something like Our graduates medical knowledge and clinical skills are usually very strong as we see a lot of patients and tests are not as readily available as in the US. We do not have as many opportunities for research as in the US. - Smile, relax and try to be as pleasant as you can. An interview is more about evaluating your character than evaluating your knowledge. Good luck everyone!
