Interview with Jacques Michau, Co-Director of In Toto Gallery, outside the Michael Meyersfeld exhibition Dark City Dreams in the Afrika Tikkun Phutaditjaba Centre in Alexandra. The exhibition, a collaboration between Meyersfeld, the photographer, and Mongane Wally Serote, the poet, was opened on 20 August in Alexandra by Serote. The exhibition could be to In Toto in Illovo, Johannesburg, from 4 till 29 September. Meyersfeld’s Dark City Dreams was born out of his desire to show the smiling face of Alexandra, Johannesburg. Alex usually conjures up images of poverty, illness, crime and grime, but while this is a less than privileged society, there also exists a life that throbs with excitement, joy, happiness and hope.
