Intl Migrants Day - Promoting the rights of migrants and their families ********************************************************************************* A ceremony to celebrate the International Migrants Day took place at MICC in Nay Pyi Taw, Thursday. On the occasion, Vice President U Nyan Tun said that migrant workers contribute to the economic growth of the countries of origin and destination, and UN has designated 18th December as the International Migrants Day since 2000 with the aim of promoting the rights of migrants and their families. According to the Vice President, the UN is pushing for the development of appropriate policies that will guarantee the rights of migrant workers, lessen socio-economic transaction costs and create the best benefits for migration. The Vice President also pledged Myanmars commitment to creating favourable conditions for migration. According to the Vice President, Myanmar has formed facilities such as the Migrant Resource Centre, the Migrant Workers Reporting Counter and the Complaint Mechanism Centre with the offices in Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw.
