Into the Dalek certainly sets a better stage than the premiere, Deep Breath, for Capaldis Doctor Who. With two down and presumably ten episodes to go for this series I think I can make a few predictions now. With a fantasy trope of Robin Hood next and... wait... *SPOILERS* stop what youre doing because Im about to ruin... you know the deal. :p Ok, with the fantasy trope next Im going to presume were not visiting the actual historical Robin Hood but rather a facsimile of the legend. Now throw in our two glimpses of Heaven and the Doctor in search of defining if hes a good man or not... Thats it, shes my caretaker. She cares so I dont have to. and I think weve got our theme. Were going to be dealing with an entity fabricating heaven and acting as a God to manipulate the Doctor into thinking, or reinforcing, the idea that he is an evil being. Look at them all, Doctor. They died by your hand to empty promises. I invited them to Heaven. ...and for a splosh of tea. In short, a logical next step of character development for a 50 year old tv character. Time to examine his faults and do some growing. And boy is it a dark and fun little trip were going on so far. Peter does it so well too. He isnt overly grim though as The Doctor is essentially the hero weve always loved. Clara feels like shes in full swing as well. I will be saddened to see her go. But we can make some predictions there as well. The Doctor doesnt like soldiers... her new love interest was a soldier. Did we really need a love interest for her though? Nope. This couldve been as easily addressed by bringing back the Doctors daughter to be honest. Recast if necessary. :) And what of the Daleks? Eh, I dont find them as scary now... not that I really ever did. But the complexity of a good Dalek on a mission to destroy the evil blight of Dalek kind will certainly have some interesting stories ahead if they pursue them on a grand scale. But it does feel like old hat... weve seen this before... destroy them and they just come back. Change one... and who knows what will happen to the rest of them?
