Introducing Fergie. Yesterday we were coming home from Toms first - TopicsExpress

Introducing Fergie. Yesterday we were coming home from Toms first appointment since brain surgery at HOMS Center for Cancer. It had been a very long day up to this point. We were heading north on the new Santiago bypass when we spotted what appeared to be an injured dog in the south bound lanes. We got to the next exit and turned around to see if this dog needed assistance. We spotted her and were able to pull over. Am I ever glad we did. This poor dog was in very bad shape - severe mange, many open wounds down to the bone, dehydration and feet swollen to twice the normal size. Despite all of these issues Fergie still had a wagging tail and came right up to me on the highway. It was very apparent that Fergie needed help and we did not hesitate to take her with us. It was too late to get to the vet so we brought her back to our house from Santiago. We gave her a bath, predisone for the pain and swelling, and hooked her up to an IV for dehydration. This is one tough tough girl as I think she has the most injuries I have witnessed in my work with the animals here in the DR. Fergie will be visiting the vet first thing this morning and we do anticipate she will take quite some time to get back to health. If you could help us with Fergies vet bills by going to dogsandcatsdr/donate any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Fergie is such a sweetheart and seems to just love the attention we have given her - sadly from looking at her I think this may be the first time in her life that she has received positive attention from a human. Fergie is a fighter and hopefully with some love and care she will be able to return to health and enjoy the love and life she truly deserves. We love you Fergie!!!!!
