Introducing the MCM architecture of Carrol B. Ishee. We were lucky enough to stay in this house this weekend where our friend lives. Carrol Ishee was an architect who built about 150 homes all over the Gulf Coast. Ishee homes are most known in the area for being minimal with mid century styling and set in a lot that has had little to no landscaping. The homes are actually hard to photograph because they are completely surrounded by trees and vegetation. Ishee really believed the outdoor living space should be seamless with both the inside and the surrounding nature. In this natural environment, he built houses featuring trees penetrating the deck, cores of trees utilized as vertical or horizontal supports, skylights, free-form bathtubs, and built in furniture. Architects, Louis Sullivan and Frank Lloyd Wright also built homes in this area as many houses were built in the 50s.
