Ipad is still the best tablet...Read article ... Which?, the UK consumer association, found that the three best tablets when it comes to web browsing on battery power alone are all made by Apple. Under the organizations controlled testing conditions, the latest full-size Apple tablet, the iPad Air, managed 658 minutes of constant browsing before its battery gave up, a whole 124 minutes more than the Tesco Hudl, the best-performing Android tablet in the same tests. The budget tablet sold by the UK supermarket chain managed a very impressive 534 minutes, putting it in fourth place, ahead of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 edition) in fifth and the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 in sixth place. Amazon also managed to nab seventh place with the old Kindle Fire HD (8GB version), which managed 438 minutes of browsing on a single charge, leaving the Google Nexus 7 in eighth and last place with 416 minutes. But the big surprise was that the second and third places in the test were occupied by Apple too. The new iPad Mini with Retina Display managed 614 minutes, making it the second best performance, and the iPad 2, the entry-level tablet that Apple has been selling for three years, came third with 590 minutes of browsing. In a second test to establish battery life when watching video, Apple was still out in front but the results were closer. The iPad Air came top with 777 minutes of video on a single charge, beating the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 into second place by 60 minutes (714 minutes). The Nexus 7 redeemed itself by coming third (669 minutes) and the iPad 2 came in fourth with 660 minutes, way ahead of the iPad Mini with Retina Display, which managed 604 minutes, putting it in sixth place behind the Tesco Hudl. The latest Samsung tablet, the Galaxy Note 10.1, managed 456 minutes putting it in eighth and last place behind the Kindle Fire HD. Of the results, Which? technology researcher Robert Leedham wrote: The bigger a tablet is in size the more likely it is to offer a better battery life. This is simply because 10-inch tablets have more space for a higher capacity battery compared to their 7-inch cousins. That said, sizeable tablets also have bigger screens to power -- so operating system efficiency is really important when creating a truly great device. Operating system updates can similarly alter tablet battery life. Earlier this year, US tech site CNET carried out a similar test to check tablet performance when playing video. It found that the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 8 (which wasnt included in the Which? study) was head and shoulders above everything else. It managed to show a continuous loop of Toy Story 3 for a remarkable 852 minutes on a single charge, while the iPad Air (second place in its test) managed 792 minutes under the same conditions. CNETs test also included Microsofts Surface 2 and it managed to offer 696 minutes of continuous playback, which would put it in third place in the Which? table ahead of the Nexus 7.
