Iran poses a severe threat to the stability of not only the Middle East, but also the entire world primarily because of its ambition for nuclear advances. There are those that believe the recent deal provides a degree of stability and that we are now able to take a breath and a sigh of relief. The actual fact of the matter is that Israel, who is very vigilante about the stability of the region, is terrified by this deal as they have grave concerns. The fact that other countries of the world are also concerned should give us a wake up call by making us rethink and carefully consider the long term implications of what we are doing. These cannot be political decisions, for the stakes are much too high. All of these major foreign policy initiatives should be crafted with bi-partisan agreement. This is because we dont want major changes in foreign policy when administration may change parties. Fortunately it appears that the Iranians are already starting to back away from the agreement which may provide an opportunity to get it right for future negotiations.
