Irrawaddynews BRIEFING: Decision on Electricity Hike in Parliament’s Hands Parliament will have the final say on a proposed hike in electricity rates after the issue was raised during a plenary session last week, Eleven Media reports. The capitulation to the legislature comes in the wake of protests in Rangoon over the planned price increase. “We are ready to follow the decision of the Parliament. If the House says increase to a level, we will increase up to that level,” Minster for Electric Power Khin Maung Soe was quoted as saying. The proposal put forward on Oct. 29 would increase rates by 40 percent for residences, and up to 100 percent for businesses.
