Irrelevant Astronomical Union .. IAU ... I like that word in this article.. A New York Times article that has some sneaky flaws.. not the typical NYT fair and balanced article anyways.. The author seems to refer to the Sicardy Eris paper (w/o taking Sicardys name - so unprofessional) for Eriss dimensions but cleverly does not take the Pluto dimensions from the same paper but sneakily quotes Mark Buie for lower Pluto dimensions.. a Faux News kinda of journalist... If someone does a one to one fair and balanced calculation and from the Sicardys paper.. here it is.. Diameter: Eris: 1438~1452 miles.. Pluto: 1429~1491 miles.. In any case by Aug end 2015 the diameter calculations of Pluto should be known accurately.. While we will be still guessing about Eris (no flyby data).. which Mike Browns original estimation was outrageous different from Sicardys accurate (but still Earth based) measurement.. Sicardys paper is worth a read it is hyperlinked in the article and also one can go to the Files tab on SUPH (this page) and download it.. One other matter which the author states, that Mike Brown found Eris.. To use authors style of choice of words.. Mike Brown factually Co-found Eris.. 3 scientists co-discovered Eris.. Lets give credit where it is due.. There are other issues about Status he writes.. which rather not comment about.. In summary a poorly written skewed article .. You can read and smell in between the lines.. deserves my cynical LOL...!!! Enjoy (?) the article.. nytimes/2015/01/20/science/nasa-spacecraft-get-a-closer-look-at-pluto-and-ceres-whatever-they-may-be.html?_r=0
