Is 8 More IITs truly a bad idea? My Points: 1. Colleges like IIT-D,M Will continue to maintain their Charisma owing to their Stalwart Faculty & Alumni Base & Infrastructure & Industry Links. 2. Every Year More than 12 Lakh Aspirants appear for AIEEE Or JEE Mains as they have now christened it & We dont even have 12000 IIT Seats (If we talk about General, hardly 4-5000) They talk about OXFORD & HARWARDs maintaining their standards by not opening more branches but one vital point that they miss is that there not more than 2-3 Lakh apply for Engineering or any particular stream per se. But here we have 130 Crore Population & overall 20 Lakh+ Engineering aspirants The fact which is exploited by the Cheap Commercialized Substandard Private Colleges, Though newer IITs may take a few years but atleast they will reach to a level where a Bourgeois class Student can opt for newer IIT over Filthy expensive colleges like BITS, THAPAR, LNMIT, JAYPEE etc & 3. also as & when total no. of IIT seats increases, due to trickle down effect it will also compell the regional Govt. colleges like UIET, & relatively better/older Private Colleges to pull up their socks & provide better standard of Education. 4. Atleast there are 30-40000 sincere serious students who deserve better education, better environment & better rewards for their hardwork (Especially when parents have started shoving their kids into JEE Coaching classes from 5th Standard itself) But when these kids dont get proportionate Rewards for their inputs, they are disillusioned & start taking Engineering for Granted. The Child who once harbored dreams of Coding the next big Software or starting the next Google/Flipkart/Microsoft grows indifferent towards it & blurs into the casual crowd. P.S. - There certainly is a need for IISeRs, IISCs etc to promote research mindset among the next generation & I whole heartedly believe that Science if taught properly can encourage & interest the students & we will have many more scientists & PhD Scholars.
