Is It Kufr To Describe Allaah With What He (swt) Described Himself With? Describing Allaah As He Has Described Himself According To The Jahmiyyah (And Their Off-Shoot Sects) Is Kufr: The Jahmiyyah (followers of Jahm Ibn Safwaan), Ash’ariyyah (followers of Abul Hasan Al-Ash’aree), Mu’tazilah (the rationalists) as well as those connected to them in ‘aqeedah claim that to describe Allaah as having a Hand (as He (swt) has done) or to describe Him as having a Face (as He (swt) has done) is tantamount to kufr. What misguidance! Imaam Ahmad, beautifuly describes such a belief when he said: “And Jahm Ibn Safwaan falsely alleged that whosoever described Allaah with something that He described Himself with in His Book, or something that is narrated from His Messenger; that he was a disbeliever, and that he was from the Mushabbihah (those who liken Allaah to the creation).” [Ar-Radd Alal Jahmiyyah, p. 104] Likewise Nu’aym Ibn Hammaad (d. 228) said: “Whoever makes tashbeeh(resemblance) of Allaah to his creation has committedkufr(disbelief) (1). And whoever denies what Allaah has described himself with has also committedkufr(2). Indeed, all that Allaah has described himself with, or what His Messenger has described Him with – then there is notashbeehin it at all.” [Fundamentals, Pp. 114-115] And the same has also been said by Al-Khuzaa’ee (the teacher of Imaam Bukharee) and numerous scholars from the Salaf. Footnotes: (1)So in order to abstain from this kufr we say that there is no tashbeeh in these Attributes that Allaah has described himself with. (2)So we don’t deny these Attributes that Allaah has described himself with.
