Is Luke 17 talking about the Rapture? Many well meaning Christians believe that Luke 17:20-37 is in reference to the Rapture; but I will demonstrate to you through this exact Biblical text why Luke 17 cannot be in reference to the Rapture. 1st lets look at the direct context, 20 Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; 21 nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’[d] For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.” 22 Then He said to the disciples, “The days will come when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. 23 And they will say to you, ‘Look here!’ or ‘Look there!’[e] Do not go after them or follow them. 24 For as the lightning that flashes out of one part under heaven shines to the other part under heaven, so also the Son of Man will be in His day. 25 But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. 26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 27 They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; 29 but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. 30 Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed. 31 “In that day, he who is on the housetop, and his goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back. 32 Remember Lot’s wife. 33 Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. 34 I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left. 35 Two women will be grinding together: the one will be taken and the other left. 36 Two men will be in the field: the one will be taken and the other left.”[f] 37 And they answered and said to Him, “Where, Lord?” So He said to them, “Wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together.” If you pay close attention to the CONTEXT and understand through the guidance of the Spirit what is being said, you will immediately realize verses 26-29 are judgment verses, not glory verses. Christ says, as it was in the days of Noah (i.e. the flood=judgment) and the days of Lot (i.e. Sodom and fire from heaven=judgment). He follows this up with the two in the field, one is taken the other left. Common Protestant teaching states that the one taken is raptured up, but a proper study of the context will show you differently, the key verse is 37, the disciples, i.e. followers of Christ are smart enough to ask where the ones taken are taken to, to which Christ replies, where the eagle is there the body will be gathered. which takes us directly to Revelation 19:21 and answers the question of where they are taken to, they (the ones in the field, bed etc.) are taken i.e. killed by the sword of the Lion of Judah and all gathered together in the field where the birds will feast on their flesh. So I dont know about any of you, but the rapture as spoken of only in the epistles of Paul is said to be a glorious moment for us as believers, as at that moment we will not all die (wait doesnt Hebrews say, that all men will die and then will come the judgment?) but we shall all be CHANGED. See 1 Thess. 4:13-18 as well as 1 Corinthians 15:50-58. Next let us remember or learn whichever the case may be for you, God through the pen of Paul states in Ephesians 3, that the body of Christ (i.e. Jew and Gentile equality with God) was NEVER made known to or by ANYONE before Paul came along, and that this SPECIAL revelation was HIDDEN in the MIND of GOD UNTIL He gave it to Paul, so if this is the case and INDEED it is, then according to Scripture itself Jesus CANNOT be referencing the rapture in Luke 17 as it was still hidden in the MIND of God! Hope this helps, Selah, Rene!
