Is Michael Dorn a terrible actor or is Worf a horribly written - TopicsExpress

Is Michael Dorn a terrible actor or is Worf a horribly written character? I mean that in the nicest possible way. Its just... over the course of two long-running series and a handful of movies, Worf doesnt deliver a single line that sounds like a living being speaking words. In support of bad acting: Worf isnt the only character in Star Trek with a strange delivery. In DS9, Rene Auberjonois does his best impression of a bad imitation of John Cleese imitating French people trying to sound American. But after a season or two, you get over it. Worf? He stays hard to watch, and harder to listen to for fifteen years. I note that about half of his acting credits outside Star Trek are video games where he plays... Worf. In support of a horribly written character: Worf is a bad spin-off (reversal) of Spock. I could get behind the idea that if Worf ever used a contraction in speech, all his pent-up Klingon rage would come pouring out and hed have to go on a murderous rampage. His whole deal is hes never felt comfortable among either Klingons or Humans, so maybe Michael Dorn is doing a great job of imitating that kid in grade school who was embarrassed that he grew a foot taller than everyone, and never could figure out what to do with his hands while standing near other people. Oh, and also he read a book once that said chicks dig guys with deep voices, so he always speaks half an octave lower than his normal pitch. Anyway, what do you think? Michael Dorn is a shitty actor or Worf is a shitty character? /nerdrage OFF
