Is Throw me down the stairs my shoes a good English sentence? The answer depends on where you live. Many people in Newfoundland find that sentence perfectly grammatical. Our friends in Brain & Cognitive Sciences at MIT have developed a grammar quiz through which they are mapping out the differences in English grammar around the world. The focus is not just the different dialects of English, but also how is someones understanding of grammar affected by the age at which they started learning English and what their first language was. At the end of the quiz, participants see the algorithms current best guess as to their dialect and native language. The algorithm is frequently updated based on more recent results.
