Is anyone out there familiar with Florida law concerning tenant privacy rights? At 7:30ish this evening, my daughter-in-law was home alone getting ready to leave & join my son where he & his band are playing tonight. Somewhat long story short - the female landlord entered the house unannounced while Chelsea repeatedly yelled out that she was NOT DRESSED & to please come back another time when her husband was home. She completely ignored Chelsea & entered the house WITH A STRANGE MAN. Terrified & not fully clothed, my DIL ran to her bedroom & locked the door. The landlord & man left after lingering in the living room for a few minutes. Chelsea called the non-emergency police line. While the officer she spoke with was sympathetic, he wasnt real clear on tenant rights & referred her to legal aid. The longer Ive had to process this, the more pissed off I get. Is it unreasonable to install chains on all entryways for the remainder of their lease (2-3 wks)? This woman is very intimidating and has scared my DIL. She hasnt met me yet - its nearly time, I think! Were doing our own footwork as our family is pretty well connected legally - but this will take a day or two. Sean Butler Dore or anyone else out there that may know - would it be defacing this womans property to install chains on the doors tonight or tomorrow?
