As another moon-sighting dispute approaches to fog our clarity of illumination & the hearts seeking Divine Grace, lets stop &- ponder- 1400yrs ago the Prophet saww split the moon Today the ummah of the Prophet saww are split over the moon! Instead of joy & upliftment, theres confusion & anguish. Can we just not accept difference of opinions are healthy? Even 2 Prophets had a difference of opinion but were not condemned (see tafsir of s21 v78-84) But theres a nefarious element that use this debate to attack Maraja Taqleed or a School of thought. Some rely 100% on scientist yet US Naval Observatory admit the New Moon depends on many factors & CANNOT be predicted with certainty. Many of us become experts on Moonsighting laws & focus on difference btwn scholars but what about 95% of Islamic Laws scholars agree on?
