Is it possible to contaminate my kraut after fermentation? - TopicsExpress

Is it possible to contaminate my kraut after fermentation? Backstory . . . We are on gaps diet and I make 12 week kraut for my 3.5 yo who has histamine intolerance (among other things). She was doing fine for weeks with a couple of teaspoons of 12 week kraut a day. Then suddenly unprecedented stool accidents every day in a child who never has stool accidents. I was trying to edge up the kraut a little but not drastically. I am wondering whether I might have accidentally used tongs that were in use for cooking meat to take kraut out of the jar instead of my clean tongs? It could have been chicken . . . just possibly. I gave my girl a rest from kraut and no stool accidents. Back to a half tsp of kraut (way below what she was tolerating) and immediate small accident same day. I have tossed the remaining inch of kraut in case but wanted to hear any thoughts. There is nothing else that has changed in her our diet or lifestyle as in stresses. She has not been ill.
