Is the US a one language culture? Should we be? Rome went the way - TopicsExpress

Is the US a one language culture? Should we be? Rome went the way of history as they allowed languages and multi-cultural in commerce and government..a thousand years crumbled. But we are more open, and maybe will actually accept your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free if we are more open to a society where you do not understand what your neighbor or the guy at the 7-11 is saying. Historically German almost became the language of America, with German language schools and ballots common until we entered WWI, and even after that to some extent. Italian may have not been strong with the Founding Fathers but from the dawn of the industrial age in the 19th century through most of the 20th century it was a major language spoken and used in commerce and education in America. As an artist...how do you reflect this in characters or our work? Should you? And how would you research to see if I am telling the truth? How will this impact your work? Should realism be a goal in the arts or should we simply entertain the masses? Should we go the other route and really push the limits? Try it in your work. Test it out. See if it works for you and for your projects. Art Lynch Coaching
