Is the gift of tongues used today? Those churches who live off speaking in tongues and signs and wonders misinterpret scripture. 1 Corinthians 14:1 NASB Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. Paul, the Apostle doesnt even tell us to pursue tongues, but prophesying. Prophesying is speaking in a language that one can be edified or understands. But, here Paul is speaking to the church at Corinthians, and like on the day of Pentecost, all languages and tongues were in this church. So, here the gift of tongues was needed. But, as you read through the book of Corinthians you will see that Paul is not supporting tongues, he is correcting the selfish of this church and disorder. Telling them that everything is to be done to edify and edification. 1 Corinthians 14:26 NASB What is the outcome then, brethren? When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.
