Is there anything about Singapore that Westerners feel is valuable? Other than perfectly demure and submissive wives (a role less and less asian women are willing to play), and peace/economic prosperity in the midst of political certainty (something thats changing as well), and our begawan solo cake (that apparently HK people love-but they are not westerners), and our hawker food (which is more like a cheap piece of nostalgia -the char kway teow uncles know-how as he muscles a fresh wok of noodles -tugs at our heartstrings once in awhile but nothing more; sadly, much less titillating than say, Urban Decays electric palette or the intelligence on broadway). Maybe, we are so good at being pragmatic, we can/want to be anything the neoliberal West wants us to be.
