Isaiah 36:4 Then the Assyrian king’s chief of staff told them to give this message to Hezekiah: “This is what the great king of Assyria says: Who are you trusting in that makes you so confident? An attempt at scaring the tiny nation of Israel. The short synopsis of what is going on here is that The mighty king of Assyria is going around and dominating every group of people that he comes across. He has absolutely no reason to fear the inhabitants of Jerusalem, but they are not responding in fear like previous nations have done. Just a few chapters before Isaiah delivered a message to the Israelites about Assyria, they knew God was on their side. Do you know? I know that you know the nice pretty Christianese answer "I trust in Jesus"...but really? If you were to ask around, I bet that you would get a lot of different answers if people were honest. Ask "Who do you trust?" You may get an answer of "I haven't really given it much thought" "I trust my spouse" "I trust my best friend" The Lord said in Jeremiah 17:5 "Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength." BOOM!!! So...maybe you are one of those lone ranger types who say, "I only trust myself". Yeah...will see how that works out for you. How has it gone so far? For us, as Christians, we should have only one answer to the question “Who do you trust?” “I trust, God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I trust the Father, believing that He has chosen me from before the beginning of time; I trust Him as my father to care for me, to provide for me, to teach me, to guide me, to feed me, to correct me if need be, and to bring me Home someday. I trust the Son, JESUS. I trust in Him to take away all my sins, He suffered for me on the Cross; I trust Him to put all those sins away forever by His own sacrifice; I trust Him to wrap me in His perfect Righteousness. I know that He is interceding for me right this very moment, and as often as I pray. I believe Him to be my Resurrection and my life and though I die, I may live! I expect Him to be my Advocate on the day of final judgement, to plead my case, and to stand there to justify me. I trust Him with all that I have, having no way to earn it on my own, no confidence in my own work, or prayers, or preaching, or teaching, or believing—I trust Him for what He is, what He has done, what He has promised yet to do. I also trust the Holy Spirit; He has begun to save me from my sins from within me; I trust Him to cleanse me from the inside out; I trust Him to calm my temper, to subdue my will, to brighten my understanding, to help my weakness, to light my darkness. I trust the Holy Spirit to dwell in me and guide my every step, to reign in me as my King, to purify me wholly—spirit, soul, and body." That is who I trust!!! What about you?
