Isaiah 42:19-20 19 Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the LORDs servant? 20 Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not. How could Israel and Judah be God’s servants and yet be so blind? How could they be so close to God and see so little? Jesus condemned the religious leaders of His day for the same disregard of God (John 9:39-41). Yet do we not fail in the same way? Sometimes partial blindness – seeing but not understanding or knowing what is right but not doing it – can be worse than not seeing at all. Isn’t this one of the major problems with the church today? Not only the church, but how about ourselves? We know for the most part what the right thing to do is, and yet we choose not to do the right action. Is that because of our selfishness? Or is it because, to be more specific, our own apathy? It is very difficult these days to be willing to do the right actions. To show grace and mercy to someone who is in dire need. This is our great commandment from the Lord to love your neighbor as yourself. Yet do we really know our neighbors enough to show love? I know for myself that I need to work on this. The difficulty that I have showing love to my neighbor or someone in need, is do they really need my help or am I just being manipulated by them? It is not for me to doubt the validity of the persons need. God will show me who deserves grace and mercy from God through my actions. I am to have faith in God that my showing of love to others will in turn bring glory to the Lord. Who knows, I may be entertaining an angel.
