Ishaq Dar says tax directory on February 15 KARACHI: Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar Wednesday said that directory containing details of taxpayers will be released on February 15 to build the image of Pakistan in the international community. The minister was addressing at an event organized by Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI). Dar said that everyone is blamed for tax evasion and this is not fair when a large number of paying taxes. For the past several months the lawmakers had been maligned in the media that they were tax evaders and concealing their assets. “To ensure their (lawmakers) respects it is decided to release the tax directory,” he added. The directory will contain name, NTN and tax paid of a taxpayer. The minister rejected the KCCI request to put off the idea of tax directory and instead the government should release names of tax evaders. The minister replied that publishing tax details was also in favour of business community as they are blamed for after parliamentarians. The finance minister also criticized Siraj Kassem Teli for his claim for contributing towards revenue as the collection increased from Rs350 billion in 1999 to Rs1946 billion in 2012. Dar said, “It is better to have low collection then large deficit.” Dar said that the PM incentive scheme is not an amnesty. It is an offer for people to establish industrial units for enhancing economic activities in the country, he added.
