Islam invented the city. The city, Yathrib Madina, was moved by Prophet Muhammad from Makkah. Cities are here to civilize us not decivilize us. Mosque, madrasah, hammam (cleanliness), suk (market), bookshop compose a city. London has 350 mosques, metropolitan creations of today. Each has his own soul, organic things, growing something. Washington, Tokyo have its own life. We (Muslims) contribute to this. It is sad despite the resource of Muslim countries, no citys urban planners and politicians in the world has sit down to think of becoming a modern Muslim city that reflects Islamic ethos.
