Islamabad (November 27, 2013) Minister of State for Interior, Education, Training and Standards in Higher Education Eng. Muhammad Balighur Rehman while terming education and energy sectors the top priorities said on Wednesday that under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the government was pursuing comprehensive, futuristic and prudent policies to steer country out of present crisis. He expressed these views at the inaugural ceremony of newly constructed undergraduate Block for natural sciences in Quaid-e-Azam University and later on addressing the concluding session of international conference on Modeling and Simulation (ICOMS-2013) organized by Air University. The Minister of State appreciated the initiative of launching BS program by the Quaid-e-Azam University and said he was impressed with the quality of the facilities that were provided for the young students. “The importance of creating a broad based education and a multidisciplinary approach cannot be overemphasized in our times,” he added. He hoped that faculty members will be actively engaged with the problems of energy, mineral resources, chemical and pharmaceutical developments, software development and indigenization of technology. Addressing at the Air University Mr. Baligh‑ur‑Rehman said the government is investing in many energy relate projects to overcome energy shortage in the country and the results of these projects would be visible in the coming years. The government vision to construct Diamer‑Bhasha, Dasu and Bunji dams would help the country overcome the energy crisis, he said. He said Pakistan is the country blessed with huge chunk of youth population and their potential must be utilized in constructive way. The minister said education is the only hope for survival of this country and the present government is attaching greater importance to all the facets of education including primary, secondary, higher levels as well as technical education. However, he said, it is the higher education which produces think tanks, researchers and scholars who can play their vital role to shape the destiny of the nation. Minister of State said modeling and simulation are indispensable for manufacturing of engineering products, physical sciences and other fields. The minister also urged the nation to adopt tolerance, understand and respect each others religious faith for maintaining peaceful environment. The conference also acknowledged the efforts of Dr Abdullah Omar Mian who is UK based Pakistani citizen for promotion of Urdu language and introducing `Technical Excellence Awards in Urdu. Two Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) were also signed on the occasion between Air University and University of Gorica, Slovenia and National University of Singapore for collaboration in research, student and faculty exchange. The Minister also gave shields to national and international delegates, who participated in the coference. Four cash awards were announced during the conference worth Rs 320,000 in the three categories each including Rs 40,000 each for best original technical papers written in Urdu, Rs. 20,000 each for translated technical papers in Urdu and Rs. 20,000 cash award for Undergraduate technical poster in Urdu. Those who addressed on the occasion included Professor Dr. Abdul Qayyum Masud Khaliq from Middle Tennessee State University US, Professor Ellen Do from National University of Singapore, US, Professor Dr. Bozidar Sharlor, University of Nova Gorica, Slovena, Professor Dr. Imran Mehmood from University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore and Professor Dr. Sirajul Islam from University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar. Dr Afzaal M Malik was the conference chair and Shoaib M Zafar was the coordinator of the conference.
