Islamic union of Kurdistan candidate has strong links to the Muslim Brotherhood The Islamic Union of Kurdistans (IUK) main candidate for the Iraqi parliament, Dr. Muthanna Amin, has much stronger connections to the Muslim Brotherhood organization than Amin has admitted to in the past. Slemani Times has learnt that Amin is also a registered member of the banned radical Islamic movement, Jamie Islamiya, which has been known to carry out terrorist attacks in Libya, Algeria, and Tunisia in the past. The IUK is an Islamic political movement founded in 1994, with financing And help from Qatar and Egypt, and has expanded to become one of the biggest Islamic parties in southern Kurdistan. The IUK has never participated in armed struggle in this region, and has a reputation as being a more moderate Islamic movement, though their connections to the Muslim Brotherhood, as well as Jamiya Islamiya and the Libyan Islamic Figthing Group (LIFG), have raised fresh doubts about the true intentions of the IUK. Dr. Muthanna Amin has travelled to many countries to raise money and support for the IUK, including Sudan, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Indonesia. The IUK, and other Islamic parties have generally been tolerated, though there are growing calls for the KRG to fully investigate the Islamic parties ties to terrorism. The other Islamic party, Komal, or Islamic Group of Kurdistan (IGK) is considered to be even more hard line than the IUK, and one of its leadership members, Dilshad Kalari is wanted by the FBI for involvements in attacks on U.S. Troops in Iraq, as well as facilitating Iranian intelligence operatives. Kalari was only allowed to return to Southern Kurdistan after KRG president Masoud Barzani offered Kalari a full pardon, against the wishes of the PUK. The PUK accuses Kalari of working with Ansar al Islam in their attacks on PUK peshmerga in 2001.
