Who created the unifying concept to bring the invading Arabs together among the raiding tribes? The finger is pointed at Abd el-Malik, 50 -60 years after Muhammeds death. One extraordinary feature found in modern archaeology is that all early mosques are not orientated to Mecca but to Petra in southern Palestine. The Koran speaks of olive plantations which are not found in all Arabia! Mecca was not a trading center and is not found on contemporary maps!
