Island Girls 2-1 Writtle | Match Report First win of the season for the U12s, and what a win it was against the 2x League & Cup Champions. It was a tough start to the game as Writtle piled forward, but some cool defending and some great stops by Hana kept them out. As the game went on Island grew with confidence and started creating chances. The first goal came when Zoe Johnstone picked the ball up from a deep and beat 3 players before finishing fantastically in the bottom corner. Writtle came out strong in the second half searching for an equaliser and despite some heroic defending by Megan, Franky and Holly they eventually found the back of the net to make it 1-1. Islands heads didnt drop and shortly after another mesmerising run from Zoe Johnstone who went round the keeper and played it in for Katie Burbridge to net the winner. EVERYONE played their part today, Lucy, Alannah, Amber, Hana F, Rhea, Hanna D and the back 3 Holly, Franky and Megan were absolutely fantastic. I dont usually pick out of player of the match, but Ill have to make an exception in this case. Zoe Johnstone take a bow, two incredible runs scoring one and creating the other, fantastic performance. Its been a difficult few weeks for everyone and myself included, but days like this remind you why we love doing what we do. The girls did everything and more than what I asked of them. A very special win and hopefully we can kick on from here.
