Isnt it strange? Jerusalem is the holy city of Israel. It is mention 822 times in the Bible and is the center of the message to both Jews and to Christians (the New Jerusalem). Is Mecca even mentioned in the Quran? Q.3:96 - Bakka. WHY? Yes, people insert the name but it is not in the original text. Why? The earliest known historical reference to Mecca (Mekka) is in 741 AD. Who decided to make it the center of worship for Islam? Even the earliest mosques were built to face Petra or Jerusalem. When did Mecca become the center of Islam? Wikipedia..... Some time in the 5th century, the Kaaba was a place of worship for the deities of Arabias pagan tribes. Meccas most important pagan deity was Hubal, which had been placed there by the ruling Quraysh tribe and remained until the 7th century. Under Saudi rule, it has been estimated that since 1985 about 95% of Meccas historic buildings, most over a thousand years old, have been demolished. 95% of its historical buildings destroyed ... for economic benefit.
