Issues for the political parties I asked one of the prominent leaders as well as a party functionary of state Congress “what is the main issue against BJD?” He, without taking time, replied that the ‘corruption’ was the main issue against BJD. Then, he cited many allegations like mining, civil supplies, MNREGA, MOUs with industrialist etc. I also asked the same question to a BJD Minister “what is the main issue against Congress?” Without even any thought, he also said that the ‘corruption’ was the main issue against Congress. Then he described a long list of ‘corruption’ of Congress like 2G Spectrum, Adarsha Housing, Commonwealth Games, coal-gates, port scams. I got really puzzled. Out of curiosity, I asked one of the party functionaries of BJP (Who is the ex-minister & also state president of the party) the very same question “What is the main issue against BJD & Congress”. Within no time and without even a slightest hesitation, he answered that the ‘corruption’ was the main issues against both the parties (Congress & BJD). As expectedly, he cited the list of above mentioned corruption. I have no doubt that if I would have enquired the same about BJP, then similar reply would have come from the leaders of Congress & BJD. Now, I asked to myself whether ‘corruption’ was an issue to be raised by the parties for electoral dividends. Certainly, Not. Corruption is an issue-no body denies that. Certainly, not for the electoral benefits. People will accept the views of all the political parties in a same manner. They will not distinguish from one corruption from other. Here comes the real ‘catch’. The people of Odisha are not influenced by the allegations or counter-allegations of political parties. And, the political parties have not found the real issues against their rivals which will be palatable to the people and will ensure rich political dividends. Mob: 9439955804
